Silver Cross prams have always been my favourite brand as they are a trusted company who have been making prams for over a century. So when I became a first time grandma this was my first choice. I did look at other manufacturers but Silver Cross beat all of them on price, style and ease of use. Therefore I have bought this Wayfarer to use for my new grandchild, I wanted something that is lightweight for me to handle, but also, far more importantly, one that is comfortable for the baby.
The design of the pram is modern but with a lie flat traditional style carrycot, this is bamboo lined and is soft for baby to lie on.
The pram was easy enough to assemble, the wheels just slotted in, the chassis is extremely easy to fold and unfold and is very light so perfect for lifting into the car boot. The carrycot was for me the most challenging part to assemble as it has two metal bars in the base that need to be pulled out to secure the carrycot. At first I thought the carrycot was very flimsy but once the bars were in place (I needed help with these, a bit of brute strength which I no longer have) the cot was very sturdy.
I like the fact that the bamboo liner zips into place into the base so it will be easy to remove if it needs a clean (sponge down only).
The carrycot can be used for occasional overnight sleeping which is ideal as I don’t need a Moses basket for when the baby stays here.
The carrycot easily lifts off from the chassis and has studs underneath so it can be placed on the floor without the base itself getting dirty.
The hood was easy to fit and the vented strip at the back is a good idea, as is the see through panel. The hood can be easily detached when you need to use the pushchair seat and less clutter to store as it fits both parts of the pram. For sunny days there is a pull out sunshade that easily folds out to give more protection for baby. The hood is very easy to pull up or down too.
A quilted apron is a nice touch, very stylish and easy to fit, it fits snugly so keeps baby warm and secure.
The pushchair unit is light to lift and the chassis can be folded with it still in forward position. I like the idea that the pushchair can be used parent facing as well as forward facing. The seat reclines to accommodate a tired child and is easily adjusted into position. It has a five point harness attached so keeps baby secure.
The raincover is in a neat bag and I am impressed that it has a see through section as well as the part covering the hood in the same fabric as the pram. It’s easy to fit and a generous size. However I still don’t understand why manufacturers don’t make prams with waterproof fabric which would be so much easier than making sure the raincover is not left behind when going out, maybe something they need to look at for future.
The shopping basket is a generous size and very sturdy and is easy to access even when the carrycot or seat unit are there.
The wheels are all the same size and are easily cleaned after muddy outings. There is a swivel option easily activated.
The brake is very simple to use, press the red Mark to put the brake on, the green dot to take it off, very simple, foot operated system.
I must admit I haven’t been a fan of ‘modern’ prams, having always had the more traditional coachbuilt styles for my own children, but I realise modern lifestyle makes these impractical so reluctantly bought this and have no regrets. I have to say I am really impressed as this pram has all the comfort of a traditional pram but the convenience for today’s needs.
Silver Cross have converted this new grandma to the modern way of going out and about with a baby!
In a nutshell, this pram is a great buy, easy to fold/unfold, lightweight to lift and extremely easy to push, but the most important thing is that my grandchild is content when in the pram!
